No, the Equal Rights Amendment *still* has not been passed, which means gender equality is still NOT part of the U.S. Constitution.
YOU can be a part of making sure that the ERA finally gets ratified! If Illinois ratifies the ERA that means that only ONE more state would be needed. Congress passed it back in 1972 but needed 38 states to ratify it before going into effect. Illinois could be #37!
We will meet at the State House Inn (one block from the capitol) for a briefing. Then we will head over to the capitol by 11:30am to make our voices heard with our elected representatives. We will also have two tables in the rotunda with information, signs, buttons, art displays, and more! Wear green or an ERA t-shirt!
This event is focused on gathering constituents to speak to their legislators. A rally is not being planned for this day at this time. We are, however, planning a press conference on the same day.
The deadline to RSVP for a lunch and lobby materials was April 3rd. However, it may be possible to still get materials if you RSVP to Susan at illinoisnow@aol.com. Include contact info and your state senator and representative’s district numbers.
In the Chicago area? Also check out ERA Illinois’ sign-making party event on April 8th!
PLEASE JOIN US IN MAKING THIS HAPPEN!
